When we have either the one or the other we employ those remedies which antagonize the septic process. The bitter tonics are indicated by fullness of tissue, with evident relaxation, impairment of circulation and muscular movement. We give Tincture of Chloride of Iron if the tongue is red, Iron by Hydrogen if the tongue is pale. The pale bluish tongue, expressionless, is the indication for the administration of Copper. You will notice that we have made this “unruly member” tell us a good deal, yet it might tell us more - it will tell us more when we thoroughly study it. My object is not to point out all that we might learn from it, but to show that it is possible to arrive at positive conclusions, from symptoms that are always definite in their meaning.
